Cookies, Cookies, and more Cookies

Yesterday we were happily stuck at home due to the bitterly cold temperature and wind.  I decided it was a good time to make some Christmas cookies.

The kids had a blast.  Even Kevin participated – if only for comic relief.014

The cookies will be quickly eaten, but the memories we made will last forever.

Advent Calendar

advent calendar

I’ve had this calendar kit sitting in the closet for a couple of years.  I finally got around to putting it together and really like how it turned out.  Not sure what kinds of goodies I’m going to put in the little drawers.  Any ideas?

Oven Mitts?

I did this layout last week, but wasn’t able to share it as it was for a challenge at Club CK. The challenge is over so here it is:

Grace got a hold of some oven mitts and wore them around the house; her shoe addiction started early.

Sew Easy? Maybe, with some practice

It seems that the one thing on many scrappers wish lists is the Sew Easy by We R Memory Keepers.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on one earlier this week.  I had asked at my LSS a couple weeks ago, and they put me on their wish list.  Good thing I did, because they were sold out in ONE day.
Anyway, I was finally able to play around with this yesterday.  Here are my findings:
1) A regular self-healing mat will not work.  I have tried several different surfaces, including a mouse pad, fun foam, and a coluzzal mat.  The coluzzal mat works the best, and the fun foam worked slightly better than the mouse pad. Even then, it did not pierce the paper at every hole.  I had to go back with my paper piercer and poke through the paper the rest of the way in some places.
2) The needle that is included with the piercer is too fat.  It made the holes much too big, in my opinion.
3) It will take some practice to make a straight stitch.  Mine always seem to go slightly uphill. Smile
4)  The price is RIGHT!  The piercer itself was $8.99 and the different heads were $3.99 a piece.

So, it has it’s plus and minuses.  If you like to hand sew on your layouts, this is great for getting the holes evenly spaced and can do some cool stitches/patterns.  If you are an expert with your sewing machine, this probably won’t be much help to you.

3 Little Monsters

Happy Halloween!  We finally go around to carving our pumpkins.  Jason told me that it is his favorite thing to do and he’s been waiting for this day ALL year!  We roasted the pumpkin seed for the first time, although I ended up having the oven temperature up too high, and some of them got a bit burnt.

Born to Play

Here is my layout of Jason playing football.  It really is too bad that he got so nervous before every game that he threw up.  I think he could be an awesome football player.  We are very proud of him for facing his fear and finishing the season.

Testing

Just testing out a new way to enter blog posts through Windows Live.  I am working on a layout of Jason and football.   I have the pictures printed, just need to figure out what type of paper I want to use.

I've not done any scrapping lately. I have one layout sitting on my work table that is almost finished, but I just haven't found just the right accent to complete it.

I have been taking tons of sports pictures. With the boys in soccer and football, it seem that all we do is run to practices and games.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this last weekend:

Sometimes it seems Jacob spends more time on the ground that on his feet.

Look at this, my boy takes on 2 of those line-men. (He's number 85)

Couldn't forget about this beautiful girl.

Digi #2

When I saw this digital kit over at www.shabbyprincess.com I knew I had to figure out how to use it. I love the colors. I'm really proud of this layout of Grace, it turned out just right. I'll never give up traditional scrapping, but digital does have it advantages. I'll still be able to scrap while traveling with Jacob's soccer team! Now, where to find more free digital kits...

Digital Page

I just finished a free photoshop course over at Jessica Sprague's site. It was fun to do, but I'm not super impressed with the finished result. I don't usually use orange, so that may be it, or it might be the fact that I look horrible in the photo. Oh well. No one reads this blog anyway. :)

My dad is famous! Sort of. He was interviewed by one of his local radio stations about his Africa missions and the street boys he came into contact with.

Beware: the beginning music is horrible. Skip the first 17 seconds if possible.

No Scrap for you

I've not been able to do any scrapping for the past two days. The elementary school's fundraiser is coming to a close, and I've been busy busy busy counting money and orders. It's great for the school, but not so great for me. Hoping to get some time to scrap tomorrow afternoon. Either that or go shopping. :)

Here is my most recent layout. It is from another challenge - to journal using older photos. The pictures are of the boys from 2003! They look so little.

Joining the blog-wagon

Welcome to my blog. I've decided to give this a try for a couple of reasons. One is to document all the little things in my life that I end up forgetting the day after it happens. The other reason is to share some of my scrapbooking creations.
My husband and kids comments that it looks "nice" only goes so far when looking for some constructive criticism.

Here is one of my most recent layouts. It is for a "Book of Me" challenge I took over at Club CK.
